Havering Folk Club News 5th September 2010

Havering Folk Club News

5th September 2010

Hi all,

Peter here in case you hadn’t guessed.

Last Session:

Our session on 1st September was another enjoyable affair. Pep took on the MC’s duties this time and after he and Terry started the evening off, he introduced Andy Roberts, Mike Willmore, Rockin’ Bob Cash, John Clarke, myself, Foxen, Dave Worley, Kriss Pouch, Linda Worley, Jane Thomson, Tony Thomson and finally, Helen Islip. With 14 floor spots there was time to start a second round and although unfortunately, not everyone was able to do a third song, there was nevertheless time for several to do so.

A Correction:

The more eagle-eyed of you phoned to let me know of my “deliberate” mistake last week. I said that the folk nights on The Gladys were on Wednesday; well of course, they’re not. They are still on Thursday! I paste the whole of last week’s corrected paragraph below:

Contrary to what many seem to think, Folk on the Gladys has not gone into hibernation, but is still going strong. The aforementioned Moryarty is the man now in charge of the sessions at this “Pub on a Tub” which is moored at Benfleet Creek, off Ferry Road, South Benfleet , SS7 1NF . The sessions are held every third Thursday of the month at 8pm. Just turn up and sing or phone Moryarty on 07818 868681 or email moryartysbox@yahoo.co.uk

Other Stuff:

The Wat Tyler Folk Festival takes place on Sunday 12th September from midday to 7pm at Wat Tyler Country Park, Pitsea Hall Lane, Pitsea, Basildon, SS16 4UH. Artists appearing include Adrian Edmondson & The Bad Shepherds, Faustus, Talbot, McCusker & Hewardine plus several others. Food and a selection of real ales are also available. Admition is £12 or £8. Booking office 01268 465465

The Fab Club are running two sessions at the  festival. The first is on a stage in the beer hall from 12noon – 3pm and will feature sets from 11 “Fabbers” though I’m not sure who at the moment. Then from 3pm – 5pm Trevor & Sue (Tone Deaf Leopard) and Bill Pardon will be running a singaround at The Thatched Cottage which is within the country park. Take note – if you’re going along for the singaround only, then you will not be charged an admission fee: the singaround is free!

Also on Sunday, 12th September, our own Linda Worley will be singing with her choir, Funky Voices at the Essex Country Show at Barleylands Farm, Barleylands Road, Billericay, CM11 2UD. Tickets for the Country Show are adults £10, Child (3 – 12) £5, Senior Citizen £7, Family Ticket (2 + 2) £25. Book online at www.essexcountryshow.co.uk  or telephone 01268 290222

Back to HFC:

Our next merry meeting is Wednesday 8th September, when once again, all are welcome to come along to sing, play or simply listen to some great music in a friendly atmosphere: Then the following week, 15th September we have our guest artists, all the way from Australia, Cloud Street.

So Make it a date – Wednesday at eight!

Cheers – Peter W.
