Done

I checked out dc-hosting and discovered that the professional bronze account should be more than adequate for my future needs, so I bought one for £47 a year. I know it's possible to get media wiki working there because frankie has done it, and I watched a little as he installed evan's movable type blog there ( not so sucessfully, it turned out )

I've also done a "partial transfer out" from 10quid and pointed the old domain at the new hosts DNS servers. This will actually happen at 0400 or 0800 tomorrow morning, but I still have to go back and do the "full transfer out" sometime, otherwise they'll try and charge me for domain name renewall later in the year.

Yangtze Gorges trip

I did this in 2000 and it was a wonderful trip. I had the photos developed onto CD, then made some of my first web pages about it.

I'd love to go back when the dam is completely finished to see how the landscape has changed.

Define Task

Specific

1) research Moin Moin
2) download files for installation
3) Find out what's needed to install it and if possible go ahead
4) Record findings and progress as a learning activity web page.

Measurable
YES, when the web page is completed, I know I?ve done it

Achievable
YES, even if I find out it's not possible, this completes the task I set myself.

Relevant
YES, If this works then it's the simplest solution and enables me to get up and running sooner so I can concentrate on the community research.

Timed
I'll do this and more this weekend.

blog still down

My other blog, the one with photos, news, videos, commentary and stuff has been unavailable for two days. This is because it's hosted on a computer connected to Anglia Polytechnic University and the connection is not working at present. So don't bother clicking here for a bit.

first suggestion

I had a brief informal discussion with the community worker about the potential of introducing blogging in a number of ways, with a positive reaction. Will make some time next week to discuss this further.

PDP Reflection

During my journey to work this morning I reflected on my PDP and workplace learning for 2003/2004

1) I decided that the most significant learning for the year has been all that which concerns blogs.

Because it affects or will affect every aspect of what i do.
*technology
*education
*online communities
*web design
*music

each will be deeply affected by the revolution in communication brought about by blogs.

2) The main catalyst for my personal learning has been
*not the workplace
*not the Ultraversity online community
*not the Learning Facilitators
*not the set modules for study

but exposure to ideas through the work of Tom Smith mainly by reading his blog entries, by being given my own Movable Type blog at Ultralab and exchanging just a very few short comments and mails.

3) I think I have identified the prime aspect of blogging which makes the big difference. It is the 'sense of audience' which blogging brings to the authors, in no matter which field they write.

In the woodpile

The woodpile is a new feature added to my garden last year. The idea is to provide plenty off nooks and crannies for toads, frogs and other wildlife to hide away in, as well as a whole host of flora and fauna living off the decaying wood.

Back in the field

It's good to be back in the field
